Speaker
Lisa
Cook spoke
on Reality
TV.
Lisa was on
an 8 hour
reality TV
miniseries
on PBS. The
premise of
the show was
"can 21st
century
people
succeed in a
19th century
lifestyle?".
She and her
family lived
in a 5 room
adobe house
in 110
degree
temperature
with no
running
water,
electricity,
etc.
The name of
the show was
"Texas Ranch
House".
They were
there for
1800 hours.
It was
filmed 6
days a week
up to 12
hours a
day....only
8 hours were
shown.
It started
out with a
boot camp
where they
were kept
separate
from the
ranch
hands. They
had no
control over
their
movements
and were
kept in the
dark most of
the time.
They did
meet the
goal that
was set
before
them. They
got the
cattle to
market, paid
their
mortgage,
had breeding
stock for
the next
season and
cash in the
bank.
Lisa said
that editing
is used to
tell the
producer's
story, not
what really
happens.
What is left
out can be
as important
as what is
shown.
Participants
are told one
thing, the
audience is
told
something
else.
Producers
have
predetermined
the outcome
and the
characters
(agenda)
before the
show is
completed.
Lisa gave
some good
advice :
-
Anytime
you
speak
with the
press,
know
their
agenda
and
their
target
audience.
-
Questions
do not
always
deserve
answers.
Answers
and
comments
should
reflect
your
agenda,
not
answer
theirs.
-
Understand
that if
you
choose
to speak
to the
media,
they
hold the
final
power.
You can get
a copy of
the show
wherever you
rent movies
or at
Netflix.
The
greeter next
week will be
Mike.
Lunch
Chicken and
Rice or Cobb
Salad and
Ice Cream
See you all
next week!
