Announcements
Mike reminded everyone that Saturday the CAB Concerts present Marcus Shelby's Jazz Oratorio "Harriet Tubman" at 7:30 PM at the Creative Arts Building. Rotary donated $500 to help pay for books for students to read about Harriet Tubman; if they read a book, they then get a free ticket to the concert. As a result of the donation, Rotary received a few tickets which were given to Rotarians interested in attending.
Diana gave an update on the Spanish-English presentations. A presentation was scheduled for Tuesday at St. Peter Martyr Church and at Willow Cove Elementary on Thursday. The only remaining presentation to be scheduled is Ron Raman's Team. A photographer and reporter were at the St. Peter Martyr presentation and a story will appear in the CC Times either Friday or Saturday.

James Carey of Carey Brothers was one of two speakers. James weighed 300 pounds and decided to change his life because he knew he out of control. He had gastric bypass surgery and now weighs 175 pounds, but stressed that the surgery was only a tool. He had to make behavior decisions to maintain his weight and improve his health. In so doing, he chose Karel Nunnick to be his personal trainer. He then introduced Karel Nunnick of Over the Hill Fitness.
Karel Nunnink is a Certified Personal Trainer and a Resistance Training Specialist, with over 35 years of coaching and fitness experience. He is a former marathon runner, Ironman Triathlete competitor, Masters Ski racer and an all-around good athlete.
At an early age, he was attracted to the outdoors. He took every opportunity to explore the jungles of Indonesia and mountains of Vermont, where he was raised. The sudden heart attack, that took his father's life, left a lasting impression on him. He devoted his studies to Physical Education and Eastern Philosophy. His coaching experience started with the Army's ski team, at the US Military Academy at West Point. Years later, he continued coaching at Green Mountain Valley School in Vermont during the winters, and the National Chilean Ski Team at Portillo in the summers.
In the early 1970's, a small Vermont vitamin company was started. Karel became one of their top nutritional consultants and salesman. Today, Da Vinci Labs, a division of Food Science Corp, is one of the largest in the world. In 1996, Karel's passion for fitness became a full-time pursuit. He was a Personal Training Director for one of the nation's top health clubs.
He has received numerous "Excellence in Service" awards as a PT Director and Trainer. He was recently featured on Channel 7 ABC's "Forever Young" segment. Karel's dedication has made him very popular with personal trainers and private clients.
He can be found biking up Mt. Diablo, skiing at Alpine Meadows or maybe windsurfing at the Delta with clients or just for fun.He trains to be fit and healthy……not for the looks……not for the money……. But for his wife, Francel and young daughter, SARAH.
He and his wife, a chiropractor, operate a health and fitness center in East County.
REMINDER: Next Tuesday's Rotary meeting will be held at Stoneman Village Senior Center at the corner of Leland and Harbor. Parking is available in the parking lot across the street at the Pittsburg Community (Senior) Center or on Presidio Lane off of Harbor. Please arrive at 11:30 am to help serve the seniors and then we will eat afterwards.DMason
